I have some scanned papers.
As you know, when I try to read scan pdf, iliad need a lot of time to prepare.
But when I read some comics, I can read it without delay.
So I thought if I adjust image side well I can reduce the delay time.

After export jpg from PDF, I resized files to width 916(for landscape mode). If you change to width 786, because iliad does not support fitting to width, you cannot see good quality image when you zoom it.

My photo-viewer only supported 16grey for PNG format.
So I changed them to PNG files when resizing.

Result is following..

A: original pdf , B:new pdf

size: A=3.1M B=3.9M( isn't funny?)
loading time A=26.7sec B=6.3sec
max page searching time A=9sec B=2sec(too short)

Con: Fast!
Problem: font quality is worst than before. And file size will be bigger.

*max page searching time means the maxium time when you try to see the next page. If you see some page which iliad did not prepare yet, you have a lot of delay time.

It is just one stupid example
I know there are many clever people here. So I believe you can give us the best setting for pdf scan file.
