Wow loads thanks all, I think perhaps some are a bit off track as they seem to be set in different worlds with aliens all over the place or set in the future.
Which i love and will add to my list however in this case and for now i'm looking more for something set in around current times that then unfolds into a discovery, exploration sci fi type journey.
eg like Rama or Spin
