Personally I think the light on the 700 was brilliant... no pun intended , but it was poorly executed. I think if they should have done it right not just dumped the solution.

I agree, seems a lot of people enjoyed the light option. I'm guessing that it was a matter of cost and not being able to find a perfect solution without compromising the contrast of the screen. The light was definately something only Sony had that made it really stand out from the competition.

I think they are going for affordable and for functions that everyone can enjoy, like a clearer screen. Perhaps they will find a way to make lighting work in the future without adding to the cost of the unit.

I also think a lot of people saw that the 300 doesn't come with SD Card/Memory Stick slot. Again cost.

I don't think we'll see a lot of new tech in these two units. Seems like Sony is cutting the fat and sticking with things that will keep the cost down while mainting features that the majority of people would like to have. I mean, it seems like they even cut down on the buttons for the 300 compared to the 505.
