if it helps, if i say to people "i like to read on my liseuse", they'll also look at me as if i'm crazy. so then i explain what is (like an ipod but for books...) then they understand. but i have to teach them all what is a liseuse, first. of course, now all my friends know. i should go stand on a streetcorner somewhere and shout about it to everyone passing by.
it's true, a lot of french speak fast. :o (not so much in the south, though. you understand, all those extra vowels takes time to pronounce.  )

When I first moved to the East coast, people in my office would constantly ask me to slow down so that they could follow what I was saying. I thought they were dragging the conversation and would be mentally wishing they would speed things up!
