Going out on a limb here...
I guess both models have a metal case, considering the weight and the construction of Sony's other models?
Not that plasitc is a poor choice for a reader, but my current 505 would likely have given up the goat a while ago if it has been made of lesser stuff. It's got some dents and dings, but it is still very functional. Better dents than cracks.
Duffel bags, convoys, carry-ons, body armor - they all take there toll on a device.
