I think that even the YY/MM/DD precedence would be more logical.
Intuitively, we use subdivisions from lower to higher or vice-versa, not mixing them up...

Agreed - but I guess it's because we're used to the logical(*) meter and kilo systems that go from small to large (and vice versa). It makes sense to move from a smaller unit to a larger.
(*)I mean mathematically logical, not
necessarily more sensible/practical for daily use (though I think so
)
