First, welcome to Mobileread!

Secondly, it sounds to me like you'd be better off waiting for one of the larger ebooks that are due "real soon now", especially the Plastic Logic one.

http://www.plasticlogic.com/

The Sony 505 is an excellent ebook reader for Sony's LRF format and for ePUB. For reading non-PDF, I'd say it's the best buy in the UK right now at £150 because Sony are selling the remaining stock off before they launch the 300 and 600.

Converting PDF into other formats is hard, because PDF is a page based, layout based format, not a text-flow based format like all the others. It can be done, but it's tricky and the results are rarely optimal.

So - in your position, I think I'd wait.

The problem is — at least, that is the impression that I am getting — that the vast majority (~ 95%) of those e-books are PDF's.

Any advice about either the readers that I should be concentrating on, and/or the difficulties in formatting PDF's, would be most welcome. Thank you for your time.
