The choice is a very personal one that depends on reading preferences. I previously had and loved a PRS505. I preferred it to the Kindle 2 because of portability and the noticeably better screen contrast. Then I got the Kindle DX and fell in love all over again. The larger screen gives me a real book feel when I am reading. I can get some real thoughts off the page before flipping. Furthermore, my experience with PDFs has been 90 positive on the DX (better than on the PRS505 where my experience with PDF was maybe 75 positive.)
In so far as portability, I take my DX everywhere. It is heavier, especially with the cover, but I'm a strong boy so I can handle that. I normally just carry it in my hand or briefcase. While touring, I got a carry bag with a long shoulder strap so I can carry it around my shoulder when walking around which leaves my hands free for the camera. When I find a nice spot to read, I turn on that big page and wow, I'm home.
There are a lot of very happy Kindle 2 and PRS505 users who would never give up the portability. For me DX is da bomb. As long as we are growing the market for e-books--its all good.
