It's a fair criticism, but obviously the price is not sufficiently an issue for some of us to not purchase the device. I still think it's a fair price. I agree that $199 would encourage more people to purchase it, and suspect the price might come down after a few months.
Early adopters tend to pay more and take the chance that "something better" will come along shortly afterwards. It's my experience, as a gadget geek of some years, that a better gadget ALWAYS comes along, so why not carpe diem and have some fun in the meantime instead of worrying about what the next month will bring?
I assure you I am not rich nor can I afford to throw away money on anything useless, but I don't drive myself crazy over whether "something better" will come along and I rarely have strong regrets over any of my gadget purchases. I buy something I know I will be happy with, and then I am happy with it. Also I don't buy something just because it is the latest and greatest--I make sure I will be happy with it first.
Usually I tell myself, "If I don't like it, I can sell it and take a slight loss," and then I'm reconciled. I've yet to sell a device because "something better" came along.
