I finished Fool Moon a little bit ago and didn't really care for it that much. It irritated me in a fairly important regard (spoiler ahead):
Spoiler:
Reminded me of contrived shaky-cam battle scenes in movies. Harry's practically useless the whole novel but constantly observing everything in redundant detail. I found myself late one night shaking my fist going "$*@&ing do something, wizard, or shut up!" Butcher went way overboard with the "suffering and persevering" thing there. The whole "reveling in wolf form" part was also a bit annoying...

I really don't know if I want to bother continuing the series now, or if I should look elsewhere. The first novel was a bit more sparse, but definitely less frustrating to read. I've heard some of the later novels are good though.

I also went through the first Jasper Fforde Thursday Next novel, the Eyre Affair. It is quirky but I rather enjoyed it a lot.

Artemis Fowl series, I've also just read the first one, but some of the characters have grown on me, and I'm presently starting the second book.

I can second some of the Discworld novels too. My favorites are the City Watch books, and the Death books so far. Sam Vimes and Carrot and Lord Vetinari are some of my favorite characters, in addition to cult favorites like the Librarian.
