I have both epub and lrf on mine, and really I prefer epub, simply because it is an open format, that is supported by things other than the ereader. I still have my N800 with FBReader, so I'd like to be able to have my stuff on that too.

If you try to embed fonts in LRF, you will see a performance difference. LRF slows down when there are embedded fonts. ePub is fine with embedded fonts.
Also, LRF is a Sony only format and ePub is going to be on more readers so going epub means you don't have to do yet another conversion if you switch readers.
