TOTALLY THE DRESDEN FILES!!! It's a series by Jim Butcher (the first is Storm Front). It's about a guy who is a wizard for hire. There are 11 books so far and they are like crack, seriously.

If you want to get an idea what they are like, it was a short lived TV show (good, but SciFi decided to cancel it). Anyway the episodes are available on Hulu.
