Well, normally I recommend people to buy what is available right now and not to wait for some new model, because at any given moment there is a new exciting model just about to be announced. When you buy gadgets you have to be content with the fact that whatever you buy, it is already obsolete.
Today, the situation is a little bit more complicated.
Think about what size you fancy.
- You might go for the good, ole' 6 inch, in which case it might be interesting to wait a little bit to see what the new Sony Reader PRS-600 brings. It might have all the good things the PRS-700 introduced, plus the quality of display of PRS-505. You should also consider Astak EZ reader Basic. They have just announced the Adobe e-pub support and they have a sale to celebrate that event.
- You might want to "go portable" and try one of those new 5 inch units. In this case, you might want to wait and see what will the newly leaked PRS-300 offer. You will also definitely want to investigate Bookeen Opus and Astak EZ Reader Pocket Pro. Pocket Pro is available for preorder at the moment, they promised they will ship at the end of August. Bookeen Opus is just rebranded Netronix device and Pocket Pro is just rebranded Hanlin device. See our wiki for other OEM distributors.
- You might also prefer larger screen (if you are more interested in pdf readability than in portability) in that case you might want to have a look at Kindle DX.
- And if you have lots of money and a need for a really big screen, have a look at iRex products.
