FWIW I doubt your problem was Vista. My previous laptop was bought just before Vista's release (XP included) and had the 'Vista Capable' sticker. It had only 1GB RAM, onboard graphics, modest processor (cost around US$1000). When I installed Vista the performance was no different to the snappy performance I got from the original XP (and I always had the Aero theme on). Probably a driver issue.

And Windows 7, which is Vista under the hood with a polished UI and less stability for me so far - crashes at least once every couple of weeks - unacceptable these days - is lauded as the greatest thing Microsoft have ever done...I will install the RTM soon and see if they've got it right.
