In this case, do not blame Bookeen. The fault lies with Amazon/Mobipocket. MP has a policy that they have to be the only DRMed format on the reader. And so Bookeen has decided to go ePub to be competitive. In order to still offer DRMed Mobipocket, they have to have a seperate firmware to support this.

Sony wanted to offer MP but because of the MP policy, they could not. And having Sony on board with MP would have been a big boost for the MP format.
