I use the K2 at the gym. I prop it on the book holder between the handlebars of the elliptical. It is always in a cover (I have an Oberon). I sweat but always bring a towel with me. I carry it in a case so don't have to touch it much.
I usually use the text-to-speech function, I can listen while reading with auto page turns. Or plug in the earphones but not use them, just read with the auto page turns. The robo reading voice is not great, but I can also listen (without the earphones) on my drive home, then get right back to the page I was on after my shower.
If the book I'm reading has TTS disabled, I switch to another book (I usually have more than one going at a time). I don't wear glasses at the gym; I increase the text size.
I've been using it this way for about a year (K1 then K2). No drops or mishaps. I do not take it when weightlifting.
Before that, I was street-running and used an iPod with music or audiobooks. My local library has free downloadable iPod-compatible audiobooks. Audiobooks are much better quality, of course, than TTS, but it's not so easy to find your place if you want to later switch to a "text" book.
The few times I've had to leave my K2 in my car for a short period, I locked it in my trunk. I have had my car broken into, but never (yet) my trunk. Hope this helps.
