Oh, black absolutely used to be rare for computers way back when. I think the point I was trying to make (but wasn't very clear about) was that NeXT was among the first companies to make black computers (the original NeXT was released in 1988). And surprise surprise, it was in large part due to Jobs. It's very similar to how before the original iPod, consumer electronics were almost never stark white. And how all manner of things were translucent jelly colors in the late 90s.
