Meh, I think that Amazon has a duty to ensure that all things sold through their site are legal, especially as the DRM hits the fan!
I don't like the idea that they can delete stuff (or maybe edit stuff?) from my partner's device at will, but I honestly have not read in detail the agreement they (must) have with Amazon, and maybe it was agreed that they could, even if it was only 'on occassion'.
Ironic that the "Big Brother" issue raises it's head with "1984", dontcha think?
