Yup, that would solve the problem. Let me add few more things to those.
1. Install Firefox 3.5 or 3.0.12. Download
here (it's a stabler version in my opinion)
2. Install flashblock addon as Dylrob said. Get it at
this page
It would be better if you use firefox on your XP machine too. But if you want to stay with IE, then install the IE8 version and give it a try.
