I recently deleted mine. I suddenly realised that being part of a social network when I'm a chronic introvert (or, at least, very selective and minimalist in my socialising) is about one of the stupidest things I can do. Likewise, "old friends" (school, etc.) are usually just "old pain" for me.

I can see how fabulous Facebook and other such sites are for those more gregarious than myself, but, I'm okay, and quite happy with MR and a couple of other sites being the only portals into and out of my social sphere (oh, that, and that often annoying distraction, "real life").
