When a flight attendant saw me turning off my K2, he told me that I could keep my Kindle on during takeoff and landing. He confirmed, "It's just running on a battery, right -- no celltower connection?" He also remembered what everybody's bags looked like in the overhead compartments, got them down and handed them out to the right passengers when we landed. Best flight attendant ever.
