Black Bear steaks. My sister's husband --- who is an avid outdoorsman --- shot a bear in the deep dark Maine woods, and just had to treat us all to his "special secret recipe."

The steaks were lovingly cooked with a thick apricot glaze, seasoned well, and served with English peas and small potatoes. A delightful chianti wine completed the repast.

To me, who can eat anything this side of a Rocky Mountain oyster, the bear steaks tasted and smelled like a cross between a sweaty armpit and the innertube of an old rotted tire.... Heroically, I ate six bites so as not to offend my gracious hosts, but then gave up the ghost... (vomit).

Surprisingly, my little brother loved them, and took a whole bunch of bear meat home to make into breakfast sausages!

Discussing this with friends, it was mentioned that to eat anything that is itself a meat eater is a tough thing to do --- the taste is generally repulsive to us hypocrite humans...
