I you want "literature" rather than merely "read once and throw it away" fiction, why not check out the out-of-copyright classics at PG, ManyBooks, etc? 10s of thousands of books, and all absolutely free.

Virtually all my "top 10" list of books would be in that catagory - Dickens, Dumas, Haggard, etc.
