The speed of the display seems to be the spped of the eInk screen rather than the speed of the CPU. I believe that even if Sony had put a CPU with double or triple the speed in the Reader we would not experience any real improvement in page turn times or response to key presses. It would be as Leaping Gnome mentioned, something that would eat battery life without giving any additional value.
