This is because of the change to lifetime+70 years copyright from lifetime+50 years. Unlike the UK, Australias didn't apply this to works that had already become public domain.

The change came into effect during 2005, so the works of authors who died in 1954 and earlier are in the public domain, but the works of authors who died in 1955 won't enter the Australian public domain until 1st Jan 2026.

Yeah, I screwed up.

I hadn't realized that Australia had changed from a 50+PD to a 70+PD country. I should have said, "I'd love to know which books will soon be going into the Canadian public domain over the next couple years..." I'm pretty sure Canada is still a 50+PD county. Anyway, I hope I haven't caused too much confusion and people get the spirit of my post.
