Actually, I think Teflon is older than that. I think it was used to coat the pipes in the equipment used to produce Uranium for the Manhattan Project. But hey, the space program gave us Tang and Space Blankets

Seriously, the space program did advance our technology and sciences quite a bit. We do indeed still reap the benefits, many years later.
