Aside from the great leap in scientific and computer knowledge the Apollo Project (and the others before it) gave the US and the world, there are offshoots that impacted almost all people. Teflon and all subsequent nonstick coatings for cooking pans was a product of the space program. Likewise, electronics got smaller spawning the portable devices we have today including cell phones and mp3 players. Pioneering advances in communications utilized many new bands and transmission methods that today provide many services for people all over the world.

Beyond the technologies were the jobs created. Add to this the creation of products that improved the economy but did not need to be purchased in the marketplace. This allowed the economy to grow without draining the purchasing power of families.

Should we do a project on this scale again? Yes, we must as a nation, as a world, or we will sink into the swamp of just prodding along. We need a bold vision, a challenge. Where is the fire? the spirit? the drive?
