I was between 9th and 10th grade (age 14) and remember staying up the whole time with the family. Most of my friends were more excited about Woodstock than the moon landing and were taking their own "trips" at the time.
My mom served "TV" dinners (a rare thing for us) and popcorn for snacks as my two brothers and I lay on the floor watching our B & W TV.
We were amazed that those astronauts were way up there on the moon. It was nice to have something happy to experience instead of worrying about friends in Vietnam.
Of course, we thought that people would soon be living on the Moon
