@TMF: For that to work you'd have to disconnect and re-connect the reader each time. I'd rather just figure out why your reader is overwriting the original metadata.
@myle00: When calibre crashes run the program Console.app it will contain a detailed log that hopefully will allow me to figure out where and why it is crashing
