Re: shower not tiled up far enough. I took some heavy plastic (shower curtain? or shelf lining) -- clear, in my case -- and use push pins to attach it to the wall by my laundry sink. The sink was continually splashing the plain painted wall. If you do this neatly enough to suit your own sensibilities (or prettily enough -- get a fancy plastic piece!) you might be satisfied with the result.
