As you know, fuel prices are almost entirely tax. It sounds as if in your country, there's lower tax on diesel than petrol, which isn't the case in the UK (other than so-called "red diesel", which can only be used by farmers). In my local garage at the moment, petrol is £1.02 a litre, diesel is £1.15 a litre.
