The Mississippi runs from northish Minnesota (right across the river from me) to the Gulf of Mexico. From my house, you can see the bridges spanning the river. So, yes, it does run a lot further south than me, but also a lot further north...

Now, the STATE of Mississippi is further south, and is, in fact, on the Gulf.
