Actually, you can use the slider, the Prev/Next Page buttons on the bottom left hand corner or the Left/Right Arrows on the bottom right corner to turn the page. The only exception is if you are view a PDF the bottom right control becomes a scroll control.
BTW: You can certainly hold it with one hand (left) and use the slider.
