And a couple of years back one side of Oxford St in London being plunged into darkness due to a combination of a problem with cables/electricity sub station (which took out a lot of the spare capacity), and a very hot day with all the shops and offices turning their airconditioning as cool as it could go. All non-essential staff in my office got sent home that day for h&s reasons (the loos needed electricity for the water pumps to work!). Unfortunately I was classed as essential
