It's getting late here in Denmark. This is my favourite lullaby. My wife has banned it as a good night song for my son, because it's too sad.
Anyways, a bad and very literal translation goes something like this:
the sun is so red, mom
and the forest is so dark
now the sun is dead, mom
and the day left us behind
The fox is out there, mom
we lock our time
come sit by my pillow, mom
and sing a little song
The sky/heaven is so big
with bright stars
Who would you think lives, mom
on the stars in the sky
Do you think there is boys, mom
watching over me
and do you think they have beds, mom
and sleeps just like me
Why does it become night, mom
with cold and bitter wind
hear the little cat, mom
miaous and wants to get in
The gulls and terns have no place to live
and hear! How the stars sing
Now they sing me to rest
