I had this same experience when shopping for an ipod touch recently...I did a price search on google and was pretty excited when I found one for $171. I was all ready to order it, until I saw "refurbished" in teeny tiny writing. I knew that price was too good to be true. If I'm gonna pay that kind of money for something, I want it to be BRAND SPANKIN NEW. I'll get the Ipod Touch....eventually.
