Where I work, senior managers have been issuing veiled 'threats' for months. I suspect they're using the economic situation as an excuse to try bullying us into submission (where we get to do more for less, and they get bigger bonuses as a result) - but all they're actually doing is demotivating everyone to the point we just do the job, and don't give a stuff.

I think you're right. The company I work for made massive profits last year and is on track to do the same this year. I am convinced that they are using the current economic situation to cut costs in an agressive way.
