Why "no sale" ? Because your reader doesn't support Secure Mobipocket or Secure eReader? The OP stated "MS Lit format (the only one I know how to strip & convert)", indicating that he/she was willing to remove DRM and thus Secure Mobipocket might be a reasonable alternative. The OP also has the option of buying from Sony, but says "since the price rise I won't buy them at Sony (besides the fact I don't like their wide margins)."
I can understand that the OP wants to shop at Fictionwise: "I have lots of lovely micropay to use at Fictionwise if only Lit format would return or if Fictionwise would add (secure) ePub." But if he/she is willing to liberate secure LIT files, then it would be possible to do the same for Secure Mobipocket files.

If your objection is because it Secure Mobipocket and Secure eReader have DRM, then that would still be the case with ePub. The only benefit in buying Secure ePub is that the OP wouldn't have to do any formatshifting or dDRMing in order to read the book on his or her Sony reader.

Ummm... I won't buy Secure ePub because you have to use Adobe Digital Editions on your workstation. There is no way to get a Secure ePub book and put it directly on the Sony 505. When/if they solve that problem, I'll revisit the ePub issue.
For now, I buy no DRMed books for my Sony reader. I buy all the current-release books that I want through Amazon for my Kindle, and the only DRMed books on my Sony reader are the freebies I've gotten from the Sony store. There's so much DRM-free content that I can read on my Kindle that I'm not having any problem keeping it full of books.
