Hello Tyrnon & welcome to MobileRead.
As a rabid fan of electronic books, I can only encourage you to go ahead and decide which reader you want and then buy it. There is one possible downsides to the JetBook -- so far it doesn't support any of the DRM formats. This effectively locks you out of most current releases unless you are willing to purchase an eBook with DRM and then remove the DRM so you can read it on the JetBook.
It may or may not matter to you that it uses an
Reflective LCD screen instead of an
E Ink one. Both of the readers that I own (Kindle v1 and Sony PRS-505) have E Ink screens and I find them very easy on the eyes, even for a long reading session. I have no experience with the Reflective LCD one, but the
MobileRead Wiki says that it doesn't use any form of backlighting, so it may be every bit as comfortable to use.
I'm sure that others will drop in with comments on their experiences with the readers they own.
Oh, by the way, if you like SF/F, be sure to check out
the Baen Free Library and then
Webscription.net. All the books offered at these sites are DRM-free and available in formats compatible with every known reader on the market. There's also quite a lot of SF/F -- classic and contemporary (under a Creative Commons license) -- available for free from
right here at MobileRead and also from
Feedbooks.
We're glad you've joined us at MobileRead. Here's hoping to get to know you better.
