Hi!
Hi,
I've been looking at the forums for a few weeks now but have never posted before, here or anywhere. I got a Sony 505 about a month ago and just love it. I've purchased from mainly from fictionwise with a few other sites here and there, can't remember the exact names. I took advantage of their 100% rebate special a few weeks ago and got quite a few books. I've already discovered Calibre to organize and convert my collection because I do like things to be organized.
I'm going to the beach for two weeks in a few weeks and am getting my reading material ready. Last year I checked out about 50 books from the library and took along, this year will have much more room in the car since everything will be on my reader! I'm a huge Jane Austen fan and have all her books ready to read again plus quite a few l have gathered up from Austen fanfic sites over the years.
I try to buy in DRM free multiformat if possible but have bought a few secure MS reader that I guess I'll have to convert if I want to read on the reader. I really don't like reading ebooks on the computer. As I understand it I can use ConvertLit for that. I don't mind paying a reasonable price for books I want but I do object to the whole DRM thing and so many formats that are incompatible with different readers. Didn't the world learn anything from the whole beta/vhs debacle?
I have also bought a couple of secure e-reader books that fictionwise was offering a 100% rebate on. Can anyone recommend a way to convert those so I can load to my reader and if I do this again would it be better to get the secure mobi instead? I'm not technically proficient enough to have to actually code something and some of the posts I've read on how to do this are way over my head.
Anyway, I think this site is great and I'm going to check out the books here too. I saw Little Dorrit on PBS back in the spring and think that might be another great beach book. I've never actually read any Dickens. Thanks for any help with the convert issues...
