While you won't see your Kindle recognized under the 0.5 series, you can still do nearly everything you want with 0.5.

If there is a non-Amazon book that I want to move over to the Kindle, I do format conversions, metadata changes etc and when I have the book the way I want, I will use "Save to Disk" --> "Save only Mobi to disk" and a pop-up will come up where you can select the location. Select "My Computer --> e:\Kindle --> Documents" folder.

It works great that way. No offense to Kovid, but I'm a little leery of beta versions so this work around works well for me...
