the thing is, I've never met an omnivore (myself included, during omni days) who didnt have moral superiority around food , it simply depends on regional and cultural factors.. for instance, here in melbourne it would be generally frowned upon to eat whale,cat,dog,monkey,koala and a bunch of others but these would all be ok in different regions, what vegans and vegetarians have done is gotten to the root of the objection to these and tried to establish a form of consistency rather than a hypocrisy that says "I'm gonna rub my meat in your face, right after you finish cooing over my cute new sausage dog (pun intended)"
anyone who finds vegetarians and vegans annoyingly morally superior could ask the question of what they consider to be taboo on their own menu.
