Oh most definitely My hero, Ray Bradbury, made his name on such 'collected' shorts, that were then called 'Novels'. One of his most celebrate works "The Martian Chronicles", is nothing more than a series of short stories placed together in a sequence. He also did this with 'The Illustrated Man' "From the Dust Returned" and to a lesser extent "Dandelion Wine" and "Something Wicked This Way Comes". The best of both worlds, I suppose
