My hero, Ray Bradbury, made his name on such 'collected' shorts, that were then called 'Novels'. One of his most celebrate works "The Martian Chronicles", is nothing more than a series of short stories placed together in a sequence. He also did this with 'The Illustrated Man' "From the Dust Returned" and to a lesser extent "Dandelion Wine" and "Something Wicked This Way Comes". The best of both worlds, I suppose
