Depend on the kindness of hotels for toiletries and/or the ready availability of shops to purchase anything we needed. Actually wear those souvenir t-shirts twice, don't just pack them up and bring them home. Pack all of our oldest and rattiest underwear, wear it twice, then throw it away in the hotel trash. That last move leaves room in the carry-on for souvenirs.

WARNING: Do not attempt this in winter, when clothes are bulkier. It might burst through the carry-on and rip a hole in the side of the plane!
Is it wrong that your packing tips gross me out, just a little? Actually, that's pretty much my husband's way to travel. When we did travel to the mainland last year in March, we encountered snow. I was always cold. I just don't have that wardrobe anymore! I figure lots of capris, t-shirts, just one pair of jeans (I'm a real jeans kind of girl), and one sweater. We do have some family somewhere in the area, so I've already enlisted my husband to wash our clothes at least once. That oughta do it, we really will only be gone around 9 days.

And, kaz, my comments on the lack of undies... from personal experience with my husband packing for the kids. The kids are actually a little better at packing. I taught them (for weekend trips around the island) one outfit for each day (shirt, shorts, undies), one extra outfit, one pair of long pants and one long shirt/sweatshirt. Mostly they just forget the toothbrush
