Actually, the books get more and more explicit as the series progresses. There aren't MORE sex scenes, really, but they're more descriptive than in the earlier books (so descriptive they embarrassed me; I tended to skim through them). Though one book doesn't have sex in it at all!

Anyway, I've finished reading the available Southern Vampire Mysteries/Sookie Stackhouse books, and I moved on to John Ringo's There Will Be Dragons. I liked it! It was long (about 700 pages equivalent in pbook), but I honestly didn't notice. Now I'm reading For Love of Mother Not, which is turning out to be pretty good, too.
