We operate under Canadian copyright laws. Canadian copyright lasts for the life of the author plus 50 years.
It's a problem for newcomers because it's
so tempting to think that if it's on the internet then a text is in the public domain. This isn't true. There are a lot of copyright violations. Also authors may post a work on their website. But that doesn't mean that it is in the public domain. They still hold the rights, unless they give them away.
