As I understand it, the cats who come to Ricky have already been through several of their allotted 9 lives, but some of them might have a spare or two to donate, especially once they're in Ricky's care. It's the most plausible explanation I can think of for her apparent ability to survive nearly anything.

This also makes a great deal of sense.... though I have to admit, one of our cats really is evil. And frightfully intelligent about it at times.
