I have the Sony, and can attest to it being very readable outside. Everything I've seen indicates the Astak will work just as well.
I don't know what you're going to read, but if you want to read comics or manga I'd recommend the Sony because that's where the additional gray scales are beneficial. Otherwise go for the best price or feature set.
