Close statistical analysis reveals that there are, in fact 159 bottles of beer on the wall, give or take 2. How they are held up on the wall is an eternal mystery.

Taking one "down" so to speak and imibing with the usual beer-related gusto (ie quaffing (ie spilling a lot)) will then yield on the close order of 158 bottles of beer, once again on a "wall" being held up there by forces as yet unknown.
