I use a Griffin "iTrip" with my iPod which works extremely well. Unfortunately it's an iPod-specific one (it plugs into the iPod's docking port, not the headphone socket) so it can't be used with the Reader. Just wanted to make the point, though, that definitely not all are "junk"
